After the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to move to work from home last year, Inflection Point had the important task of strengthening cybersecurity across the organization. With more than 200 employees in Mexico and the United States, the result was wonderful: a change in the behavior of all employees regarding issues such as phishing, awareness, secure connections, and the Impact recognition from Infosec's Security Awareness Awards.
With support from our leaders, our Information Security Lead, Lorena Garza, through the monthly Infosec IQ awareness and training program, launched different initiatives to educate our employees around a topic that affects us all equally: cybersecurity. Including phishing simulations, educational videos, and interactive games, these campaigns trained staff month after month, until they had a significant impact on quantitative results.
"When you're in the office, you feel more in control of your users and their practices within the facility, but since we started working from home, the concern of a cyber secure space for our employees came directly from top management," says Lorena Garza. "It was really important for us to keep our staff aware of security risks, so we started with these programs".
Notable achievements at the company during this time include increased reporting of suspicious emails, rapid detection of phishing drills, a decrease in security events across the organization, and a noticeable change in the overall security culture.
"At the beginning, we had a 39% phish rate, and by our fourth simulation, we were down to 3%," shares Lorena. "We also started the first campaign with a 4% of suspicious mail reporting, and by our last, we managed to increase that to 31%. We have been improving exponentially".
Through these impressive numbers, we have begun to strengthen our security culture, equipping each team member with knowledge and insights to develop skills that help them recognize cyber-attacks, thus strengthening our security awareness and creating an impact within the organization. We are confident that this recognition provides us with great value and leaves us with the task of continuing to educate ourselves for the future of cybersecurity.
